Cambridge NY Washington County Natural Food Co-op

Join our food co-opMEMBERSHIP
Memberships are household memberships. Any non-households (schools, institutions etc.), should apply to the Board for special membership. Food purchased at discount price by working members is only for personal use. (Commercial membership is an exception – see below.)

WORKING MEMBERS
A $20.00 deposit, refundable on departure in good standing. Working members receive a 20% discount on purchases at the Co-op. The discount takes effect as soon as a new member completes one in-store training session. Pre-ordered goods are available from selected suppliers and may be ordered according to pre-order guidelines.

SINGLE WORKING MEMBERS
One 3¾ hour shift must be worked each month per household. Pre-orders are at 15% above wholesale (taxable pre-orders have a 30% mark up).

SENIOR CITIZEN WORKING MEMBER
A $5.00 deposit. All the same requirements and discounts as the working member categories. Flexible schedules can be worked out to meet special needs.

COMMERCIAL MEMBER
A $35.00 annual fee. No work required. Commercial members can pre-order at 40% above wholesale but there is no "over the counter" discount.

WORK + TRAINING = RESPONSIBILITY
New members should sign up immediately for two training sessions to introduce themselves to Co-op operations. The new member should contact the Co-op managers to arrange an appointment for the first training session – a one-on-one session to introduce Co-op products and procedures. The second training session is a regular 3¾ hour shift worked during the same month. Double working members should also work an extra 3¾ hour shift the first month and then 2 shifts each month thereafter. Members sign up for shifts on a master calendar posted in the Co-op and must record each shift worked on the member’s card on file. Prime responsibility for late cancellation of a shift is on the member, who must find a replacement and notify the managers.

Members are encouraged to attend the October and January membership meetings and any special meetings that may be called. The Advisory Board welcomes participation of members at its monthly meetings (except when hiring). Meeting notices are posted on the bulleting board.

DEPARTURE IN GOOD STANDING
Deposits are refunded to members leaving in good standing, which means leaving after a minimum of six months, having worked all the required shifts.
